Building Code H1 · Energy efficiency

Performance code

H1 addresses energy performance, not a nationwide double- or triple-glazing prescription. The 2025 compliance-document update retains the overall required efficiency and insulation level.

Glazing implications

Window performance depends on the glazing, frame and edge construction. Read the selected design and compliance route before deciding whether double or triple glazing is appropriate.

Industry signal · company source

AGP describes a purpose-built factory exceeding 40,000 square metres, automated glass shuttles, robotic spacer application and IGU production with minimal human contact. This describes existing plant capability, not a measured H1-driven growth rate. Company source

From specification to manufacturing

Translate the approved window specification into actual pane build-ups, mass, contact faces and IGU production-station requirements.

Victoria · Oceania

Australia

Victoria · NCC / 7-star homes

State requirements

New homes must meet 7-star NatHERS and Whole of Home requirements. Victoria explicitly states that double glazing is not mandatory; orientation and the overall design matter.

Glazing implications

A whole-home rating can be reached through different design choices. Glazing selection also depends on orientation, shading and the project’s thermal-performance assessment.

Policy & industry context

The Victoria source explicitly says double glazing is not mandatory. Read state adoption requirements separately rather than treating one state’s rules as a single national glazing specification.

From specification to manufacturing

Confirm the selected glazing and solar-control specification before reviewing coated-glass contact and production-line components.

Building Energy Efficiency Act · Expanded compliance

Energy performance

Expanded new-building compliance concerns envelope and primary-energy performance. The selected glazing depends on the building specification; separate renovation subsidies have their own product and application conditions.

Glazing implications

Low-E glass and insulating units may form part of the selected envelope specification. Building-level performance is different from the thermal value of one pane or window.

Industry signal · company source

NSG announced new sputter-coating equipment at Chiba, with trial production to follow and capability for glass up to 6 by 2.5 metres. The release reported installation; later sales and output are not verified here. Company source

From specification to manufacturing

Dubai · Middle East · Asia

United Arab Emirates

Dubai · Al Sa’fat Green Building System

Dubai requirements

Al Sa’fat requires new buildings to achieve Silver Sa’fa. Gold and Platinum add higher requirements. The rating does not establish a universal glass pane count.

Glazing implications

Solar-control performance can shape the glazing specification. Establish the exact coating, glass build-up and panel size rather than inferring a pane count from the building’s rating.

Policy & industry context

Silver is the minimum baseline identified by Dubai Municipality; Gold and Platinum represent higher tiers. This is Dubai coverage, not a statement of rules across all UAE emirates.

From specification to manufacturing

Confirm solar-control glass and actual panel dimensions; assess coated-surface contact and the complete handling task.

Europe

EU framework · Europe

European Union

Energy Performance of Buildings Directive · EU/2024/1275

Policy framework

The recast EPBD supports building renovation and zero-emission buildings. Member States choose nationally appropriate measures; window obligations must be checked in the applicable national law.

Glazing implications

Renovation and building-performance measures can affect window specifications. The obligation for a particular project must be established in the relevant national implementation.

Policy & industry context

The national transposition deadline was 29 May 2026. That deadline does not prove that every Member State has completed implementation, or that one window specification applies throughout the EU.

From specification to manufacturing

Track national renovation measures, then evaluate the confirmed glazing specification and related processing requirements.

England · Europe

United Kingdom

England · Future Homes and Buildings Standards

Enacted · upcoming

The 2026 regulations introduce updated energy and emissions requirements with future commencement. They must not be described as an already effective UK-wide triple-glazing mandate.

Glazing implications

The selected window and glazing design should follow the requirements and transition route applicable to the project. Future commencement dates need to remain visible in specification discussions.

Policy & industry context

The 2026 regulations have been enacted with future commencement. General provisions commence on 24 March 2027; specified higher-risk-building provisions follow on 24 September 2027, with transitions.

From specification to manufacturing

Monitor project specifications and supplier readiness; future regulatory dates alone do not establish current glass orders.

United States

California · 2025 Energy Code / Title 24 Part 6

State energy code

The 2025 Energy Code applies to permit applications from January 2026. Building-performance compliance must be distinguished from voluntary window certification and from pane-count claims.

Glazing implications

Keep whole-window performance separate from glass-only values. A specification using triple glazing may have a conventional center pane or a thin-center-pane design, with different workpieces to handle.

Industry signal · company source

Alpen reported two high-speed automated glass lines and a collaboration using Corning thin glass as the center pane in triple- and quadruple-pane IGUs. This is company-level investment evidence, not a national growth rate. Company source

From specification to manufacturing

Compare individual-pane and completed-IGU handling; distinguish conventional triple glazing from thin-center-pane designs.

British Columbia · North America

Canada

British Columbia · Building Code / Energy Step Code

Provincial framework

The Step Code uses performance-based energy assessment. Higher local steps require local verification; this is not a Canada-wide instruction to use triple glazing.

Glazing implications

Cold-climate projects can use different IGU and frame combinations. Record the specified complete window and glass build-up instead of deriving a universal triple-glazing requirement.

Policy & industry context

Provincial baselines and municipal higher steps must be read together. The applicable requirement depends on building type, location and permit date; other provinces need separate review.

From specification to manufacturing

Use confirmed cold-climate IGU build-ups to review weight, supports and available suction-cup contact surfaces.

Read thermal-performance values in context

Ug: the glazing

Describes thermal transmittance of the glazing. It is not the complete-window value.

Uw: the complete window

Includes the window construction. Check dimensions, framing, units and the calculation or test basis.

R-value: thermal resistance

Compare equivalent constructions and units. Do not use 1/Ug as the R-value of a complete window.
