Suction cup shape

Measure the outside of the suction cup or plate, not the fabric cover. Nominal fit dimensions are not effective suction area.

PRELIMINARY

Starting scenario: S = 2.0 indoors. Confirm the factor for your machine and application; this is not an MTC rating.

Vacuum with the cover installed

10% is an editable illustration, not a measured MTC loss. Enter vacuum magnitude relative to atmosphere: 60 kPa = 0.60 bar vacuum.

Effective area & load distribution

70 cm² is an example only. Enter manufacturer data for your cup; changing the cup dimensions clears this value.

80% is a scenario assumption for unequal load sharing. It does not verify centre of gravity, cup layout or redundancy.

MTC DIMENSIONS

View original product specifications ↗

Compare the nominal fit dimensions published for EUROTECH MTC suction cup covers. Round sizes start at 20 mm and extend to 550 mm; listed oval sizes extend to 600 × 1250 mm. MTC covers are also described as suction plate covers or vacuum cup covers. These are selection references, not lifting-capacity ratings. Confirm the cup profile, edge retention and any openings before ordering.

Square, rectangular or a special size?

Specify width, length, cup profile and openings. Custom covers are reviewed against your drawing; no standard part number or automatic fit is assumed.

Some round ranges overlap. Every matching candidate is shown; EUROTECH must confirm the correct construction. Oval matches use the listed pair of dimensions, without an assumed stretch allowance.

APPLICATION-BASED SELECTION

Choose the cover around the workpiece and process

01 / GLASS

Glass, coated glass & mirrors

MTC covers provide a contact layer intended to help reduce suction marks. Check the actual coating, cleanliness and surface finish. For Low-E or other sensitive coatings, request a compatibility trial and inspect the surface after repeated handling.

Prevent suction cup marks on glass →
02 / METAL & PANELS

Sheet metal & sealed wood

Review contamination, surface texture and the complete contact interface. Oil or dust can change friction and leakage. A covered cup needs its own shear test; increasing a safety factor cannot replace missing friction data.

03 / POROUS & SPECIAL

MDF, stone & custom surfaces

Porosity, texture, seal geometry and vacuum flow determine whether a stable grip is possible. This tool withholds a capacity result for unsealed porous panels, stone and unknown combined loads until an engineering review.

ENGINEERING BASIS

How vacuum loss, effective area and safety factor affect the estimate

Use operating vacuum at the covered cup

The calculation uses pressure difference relative to atmosphere. In measured mode, enter the lowest reliably maintained vacuum with the cover installed during the relevant operating cycle. No second loss allowance is applied. Assumed-loss mode is a sensitivity exercise, not a prediction of cover leakage.

F = Δp × Aeff × n × u
mestimate = F × k / [S × (g + a)]

Aeff: effective suction area per cup · n: active cups · u: usable load-sharing fraction · S: safety factor · g = 9.81 m/s² · a: acceleration along the resisting load. k = 1 for normal load; k = measured friction coefficient for pure shear.

This simplified model does not resolve combined forces, moments, rotation, emergency stops, hose failures, cup deformation or material-specific load ratings. Those may set a lower limit than the calculated result.

Safety factors are application decisions

The existing EUROTECH calculator provides indoor S = 2.0 and outdoor S = 3.0 starting scenarios. They are adjustable starting assumptions, not MTC-certified recommendations or universal minimums. Material selection changes the review requirements; it does not invent a material-specific multiplier.

  • Coated glass: validate both grip and coating compatibility.
  • Vertical handling: enter measured friction for the covered interface.
  • Porous or oily workpieces: validate flow and contact conditions before assigning capacity.
  • Tilting or combined loads: obtain a complete system calculation.

Vacuum reduction and friction reduction are different effects. A larger safety factor cannot establish either one without evidence.

SELECTION QUESTIONS

MTC suction cup covers: frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right MTC suction cup cover size?

Measure the outside diameter of a round cup, or both outside dimensions of an oval cup. Compare these with the published size chart, then confirm the edge profile, cover retention and openings. A matching size is a candidate, not confirmation of compatibility.

Can EUROTECH make square or rectangular suction cup covers?

Square, rectangular and other custom configurations can be submitted for review. Include the full dimensions, a drawing reference, cup profile, openings and operating conditions. Availability and the final construction are confirmed through the custom enquiry.

Do suction cup covers reduce lifting force?

The covered contact interface may change the maintained vacuum and resistance to sliding. Use measured operating vacuum, effective cup area and appropriate test data. This tool's illustrative vacuum-loss percentage is not a published MTC performance specification.

What is the difference between MTC and SSUZ covers?

MTC covers are intended for the workpiece-contact interface during handling. SSUZ covers protect suction cups or plates when not in use. Storage protection must not be treated as an approved lifting interface.

Can I use the listed cover size as the suction area?

No. Outside dimensions describe fit. The effective vacuum area depends on the suction cup's sealing geometry and manufacturer data; centre openings, profile and contact conditions also matter. Enter the effective area separately.

When should I replace or clean an MTC cover?

Inspect for contamination, tears, loose retention and changes in performance. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and replacement instructions for the actual cover and workpiece. Confirm the service interval, temperature limits and suitable cleaning methods with EUROTECH for your application.
