Stone Handling Suction Cups

Vacuum Suction Cups for Stone Handling

A stone slab loader can have a sound frame, drive and roller system while its suction cups need attention. A worn sealing edge, a damaged cup or a change in the slab surface can interrupt the next pick-up. The replacement needs to suit both the machine and the stone.

EUROTECH supplies industrial vacuum suction cups, suction plates and replacement sealing elements, and reviews existing components for stone-handling applications. Send the installed cup details so we can assess the geometry, mounting, contact material and operating conditions.Handling applicationsStone surfacesCup and seal optionsReplacement enquiries

Suction cups for stone slab loading and transfer

Vacuum cups are used on automatic slab loaders, unloading frames, turning systems and lifting equipment. A polishing-line loader, for example, has to meet the slab at the rack, establish contact across the selected cups and carry it through the required change in position. Cup selection has to account for that movement as well as the slab weight.

This is an established machine application: Pedrini’s B415 loader and unloader uses a suction-cup frame for slab handling. The details of any replacement still depend on the installed machine configuration.

Automatic loading and unloading

Cup profiles, contact heights and mounting positions need to suit the frame. The minimum and maximum slab sizes also matter when some cups may fall outside the workpiece.

Slab transfer and turning

A cup that seals while the slab is horizontal also needs assessment through the intended tilt or vertical movement. Load distribution, friction and slab support become part of the selection.

Marble, granite and quartz slabs need different checks

The stone name is a starting point. Check the face that the cup actually touches: a polished front, a honed surface and a rough or reinforced back can present different sealing conditions on the same slab. Resin, mesh, contamination and moisture also need to be recorded.

Contact surfaceWhat to establish before selection
Polished or other relatively smooth stoneCheck the sealing footprint, cleanliness and marking requirement. A smooth appearance alone does not establish the material’s airtightness.
Honed, textured or rough stoneAssess the actual surface profile and the sealing edge together. A surface sample helps establish whether the proposed cup can form a workable seal.
Porous or open-textured materialEvaluate leakage, vacuum-source capacity and the complete handling arrangement. Greater vacuum alone does not close pores or openings.
Quartz and other surface-sensitive slabsDefine the visible surface result required after handling. Compare the cup material, cleaning condition and any proposed contact cover.

Some stone processes require more than a different cup. Prometec’s TRAVER system for travertinecombines mechanical gripping with suction cups. This illustrates why porous or fragile material should be reviewed at system level.

If surface quality is the main issue, start with our guide to suction cup marks on quartz slabs. If the loader cannot establish or retain vacuum, use the stone slab loader vacuum-loss checks to organise the fault information.

Replacement cups, suction plates and sealing elements

EUROTECH’s range includes flat vacuum suction cups, bellows suction cups and suction plates. Which construction is worth assessing depends on the original part, the contact face and the machine movement. A bellows profile can provide compliance, but the presence of a bellows does not establish suitability for rough or porous stone.

Some replaceable-seal cup designs allow a worn sealing element to be renewed while a serviceable support plate remains in use. Other cups use a bonded or vulcanized construction and need a different replacement approach. Identify the construction before ordering a seal or complete assembly.

Contact material is another part of the review. Use the vacuum suction cup material guide to discuss wear, flexibility, process chemicals and marking requirements. Material names and rubber colour alone do not establish suitability for a particular slab.

For suitable cups, MTC suction cup covers provide an additional contact layer to assess for sensitive surfaces. Fit, retention, holding performance and the result on the actual stone need to be checked with the cover installed.

Identify the existing cup before choosing a replacement

Start with the contact face, side profile and mounting side of the installed cup. Add the machine model, any part number and a drawing if available. Our stone slab loader replacement guide explains the measurements to collect and how to distinguish a seal enquiry from a complete-cup enquiry.

  • Cup outside dimensions, sealing profile and overall height.
  • Mounting-hole pattern, thread and vacuum connection.
  • Stone type, surface finish and the side contacted.
  • Slab size and weight range, handling orientation and operating vacuum where known.
  • The reason for replacement: wear, leakage, damage, contact marks or a proposed process change.

The Suction Cup Replacement Finder can help locate existing product references. For a geometry or connection that needs a separate review, see custom vacuum suction cups and OEM enquiries.

Questions about stone-handling suction cups

Can the same cup handle marble and granite?

Possibly, if both applications meet the cup and system requirements. Compare the actual contact surfaces, leakage, slab range and movement rather than selecting by the stone name alone.

Can I replace only the rubber seal?

That depends on the cup construction and the condition of its supporting parts. A detachable sealing element and a vulcanized cup are different assemblies. Send photographs of both sides before choosing the replacement scope.

Are lifting cups the same as CNC vacuum pods?

They perform different jobs. CNC pods support and hold a workpiece against machining forces, while a handling cup is part of a transfer or lifting arrangement. Review CNC suction cups and vacuum clamping requirements separately and confirm the actual machine interface.
